Any idea what's wrong with my rhodo?

Added a post Apr 16

My rhodies look like this occasionally, especially after the winter. Someone once told me to use ironite on them. It does seem to help eventually, when the ironite gets watered in after enough rain. Read More »

Welcome back, Gerda. Well, you can see from my blog post, my New Dawn and Graham Thomas roses are blooming up a storm. My new roses from David Austin, however, remain stick canes, with the exception of 1 of them. I'm just about at the point of contacting the company for a refund.... but I keep hoping they'll leaf out yet. Yesterday's jaunt in Mary Ann Willingham's garden was an inspiration, though. She grows hybrid teas and they are glorious. I may go back to them. Which roses do you grow that you particularly like?

So glad your roses are doing well Gerda. Mine, on the other hand, have not shown one bit of interesting in so much as sprouting a leaf. Frank Dezzutto of the Rose Society warned me that buying bareroot roses was more of a gamble, but darn it, I love those David Austen roses. Well, hope springs eternal. I'll keep watering them.

Hi Gerda,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. While I would like to take credit as the "young genius" behind the site, I am merely an enthusiastic supporter. I have kicked in some ideas for the structure and content of the site, but really it is the Citizen Times that is responsible for putting the site together. Polly McDaniel really has put a lot of effort into the content of the site.

I'll try to break down some of the technical stuff, but I have to run right now. I'll get back later.

Cheers.

Gerda, how are your roses coming along?

Horticulture and gardening are ever-learning issues. I'm constantly taking classes as I'm a really "school and plant" geek. I have killed many many plants before I became a horticulturist and I still lose some plants these days due to Mother Nature and two "naughty, but lovable schnauzers".

I am now holding off on attending Grad school for about a year. Long story short--I want an assistantship, which will pay for my tuition and I will work for the University in return, while taking classes. I'm still waiting on the assistantship from Clemson Univ--I will be around for another year doing what I love. My husband and I love this area and wish to remain here for a while even while I attend Grad school.
