Hi Mrs. Polly! You should not have too much trouble up here. I planted some in containers last year and did well, probably a little better than a quart per plant. Make sure they are planted in a sp... Read More »

Help with Rabbits

Hi Nadine, as GTG noted coyote or fox urine works well for rabbits, but there are some other tricks you can try. A mix of linseed oil, detergent and water can be sprayed on and around plants, it wi... Read More »

Appreciate each and every day.

Hello friends, it is with great excitement that I announce that today I have made it to a ripe young 34 years! Really, the fact that it is my birthday is not that important, but that as I get older I find out many things about myself. I grew up in a small farming community in South Carolina. Just outside of Orangeburg, there is a small dot on the map called Bolentown. There is a general store/bouti

Plant Sale this Saturday!!!

Hello everyone, I have exciting news! There will be a plant sale this Saturday at the West Buncombe (Erwin) Fire Department on Old County Home Road from 8:00 to 1:00 in the afternoon. I spoke to Randy at the Firehouse, he tells me this is the 4th or 5th annual plant sale to support the Ladies Auxiliary. There will be many flowering plants and vegetables available for your viewing (and purchas

Sunshine

I have to tell you, I am an eternal optimist, but the one thing that can drag me down is a gloomy and gray day. So I am sitting here looking at posts and blogs when I get a note from Polly saying she enjoys my posts and at that very moment the sun started to show thru my back window. Coincidence? Probably, but it helped me realize that just as gardens need rainy days and sunny days to thrive, so do we as people. A nice sunny day can save a crop, and I believe a nice sunny smile can save a person…

Cabin Fever

Hello to all here at Garden Asheville! My name is Will and I have lived in WNC for 8 years now. I grew up in South Carolina and lived in Georgia and Charlotte before moving to Arden. I now live in beautiful Alexander! This year will be my second garden since moving to the mountains and I am so excited I cannot stand myself. I do love the mountains, but I am really getting a bit aggravated with the nice weather for a day or two then some cooky cold front swings through. Why can't we just get on w…

Hey TigerFan,

I was inspired after talking to you today--went to Books a Million and found some more great design books. My husband informed me that I have a lot already, but there is always something new or different in every book. I reminded him of how many CAD books he owns-ha ha I'm a visual book geek type--love to gaze at pictures as it really inspires me.

It's great to have you back! I shot you an e-mail earlier. Are you and your wife going to Garden Jubilee in Hendersonville this weekend? I hope to make it--I'm also trying to do a plant rescue Sunday. I gave away some of my prized Jack in the Pulpit plants to my neighbor--these were huge beautiful plants. I installed a boulder rock garden with native wild flowers for him. The Jack in the Pulpit was a gift to him because I knew he would love them. Polly will be gone for four days--15th anniversary.

Sure is quiet in Tiger land....hope everything is going well for you. It would be great to visit and see your garden sometime--I bet Polly would want to come also.

Hey Tiger, I see that you were checking in with Donald about the Men's Garden Club. You would love it. They have their own greenhouse and do service projects, plant sales and the meetings usually have a guest speaker for an informative talk. A lot of these guys are retired but not all of them and they just impress me so much with their gardening knowledge.

Tiger Fan,
Loved your pictures, my favorite was the one you did for your wife. Try some Mexican sunflowers in your garden this summer.
