blackgum trees

My blackgum tree doesn't have any buds yet. We planted it last fall. Does anyone know when they leaf out.

Nyssa sylvatica, black gum trees, are an extremely hardy tree. And one of the reasons it is so hardy is that it leafs out rather late. It is also one of the first trees to change color in the fall. The vascular tissue doesn't fill with fluid early, hence making it more resistant to late season freezes that could burst the vascular tissue as the fluid expands.

Hope that helps. I would definitely give them more time before you need to worry.

Cheers.
