Gardening Experience:

About Me:
After 20 years in the Air Force, I went back to school to become a horticulturist. I was an Education/Horticultural intern during summer 2007 at Callaway Gardens. I enjoy donating my time and horticultural skills to Habitat for Humanity, Bullington Center, NC Arboretum, and my church.
Favorite Plants:
I love most plants as a rule--the textures, colors, shapes, foliage, blooms and fragrances--a well-designed landscape has all of these characteristics in mind. There is always something captivating all year long in my garden.

Garden Art Galore!

Every so often, I find garden art that I admire. It either blends in with the landscape or accentuates an area in the garden. It can also add character to a great meditative place. So why doesn't everyone think the way that I do? Everyone knows a person that goes over board with f… Continue

I am working at the VA Center in H.R. This is my second week. Mark and I are both working in new jobs. We are both doing well. I am keeping my evenings and weekends open for landscape design and consultation. I went to the OGS last weekend and ran into my favorite horticulture teacher--George Thomas. Spent 2.5 hrs in the emergency room this morning to find out I now have high blood pressure. Geez--I have always had low blood pressure in the past.

We are looking to buy some land in the Mills River area soon. We want to build on it in the next year or two. We both want flatter land and a lot more sun. Hope you are feeling better. Spring is in the Air!

What have you been up to, GTG? Long time no hear! I raked the leaves off my perennial beds today. It felt great to begin a new season. Was on furlough from my job last week, but sick Sunday-Friday. A real drag. Now I'm back to my happy self, digging in the dirt.
I want to add some beds this season. Pondering on it.

I am looking for someone who knows WNC horticulture to consult with and am wondering if you would consider a trade: a massage for a consultation. I am a public health nurse/school nurse and certified massage therapist. let me know if you are interested.

I'm discouraged with myself as a gardener right now. I've got to get a gray water system or some rain barrels or something going for next year. The garden is just suffering and I can't water it enough.

Thanks for visiting my space and for the suggestion of worm castings. I've thought of starting my own vermicomposting bin. You asked about my potting shed, and I guess can say that I'm very fortunate that my husband is tolerant and wants me to do or have what makes me happy. He has hobbies that he spends money and time on that wouldn't be my choice of resource allocation, but I want him to be happy also! That's one reason we're still happily married after 37 years.
