For anyone who knows of anyone, the NCBA/SCSEP stands for Senior community service employment program and National Black Council on Aged but you dont have to be black, just over 55 and not make from whatever source more than $12,500 per year. Its minimum wage and p/t federal program and you have to be actively looking for work while on it about 3 years max depending. I have seen many folks get hired and indeed i "graduated" out of the program and was hired but on a temporary basis thru a local temp agency so no benefits or security but then like 90percent of our office when there was a big shake up of management, I got laid off. Thats how it goes. I am glad to say I worked there and was able to be of help in a realistic way to many folks, sadly, many of the waged, beneftis employees had developed burn out and truly hated the public they were supposed to serve. Anyone who works with the public, especially this segment often represented at a work force office, can understand some of the stress but it was a tough year what with office politics and some oldtimers who would do really nasty. truly sadistic things to folks who they perceived as being powerless. I was so glad to be able to step in and undo some of that and bring some light and hope to a grim situation. (being unemployed was NOt the worst problem for some of our clients, not even close) . But i prayed for them all , all the time and there were many job connections and etc, made thru the office. I am told the spirit up there now is not helpful and the only time i got reprimanded no biggie , was for helping them too much. I made resumes for folks and showed them how to make and use an e mail account. Many folks are afraid of computers., they are just a tool like any other and very helpful. Except for JESUS love, a free Yahoo account is the best free thing around!!.

I have worn many hats but the last few years had worked for a federal program for old poor (only in money) folks call ncba/scsep locally (which they have in many nc counties - its county by county - and i would like to transfer up there.

What they do is a training program p/t for seniors and they place us in various facilities like for instance the best and longest one i worked at was the Escarosa Workforce center which is like the unemployment/job office but with computers now and much more complex. I was a secretary attached to tyndall air force base for a one year contract in panama city, fla while in college and so now I have learned to use computers fairly competantly. and more importantly to patiently show other folks how. We have our own EMPLOYFLORIDA web site and every state has one, plus free faxing and copying in the office. well, to make a long long story short, i actually got hired full time but then got laid off so I am on unemployment. Seems like a really good time to scout out a new place since i am not getting any younger.

I was a wal mart cashier also for many years. My IQ is or was 138 and i guess the tinnitus that a local Doctor gave me with unneeded antibiotics last year when i worked for the health dept ( I am a licensed car seat Technician which north carolina pioneered and i am checking with) has so slowed me down that i guess i am now normal. bummer

I am a ordained minister of the old hippie Universal Life church for many many many years which is legal and see myself as Ministry of HELPS and ideally would like to work for or with or start a christian spirit filled based thrift shop/ hostel? need a partner for that tho. Was once an assistant manager at a Goodwill (and why dont they alphabetize the books by author, ? they would sell so many more... but they are so inflexible and not so much on the common sense train.). That sort of thing.Thru this scsep program I might work p/t for or else volunteer at a library or such as that also. Non smoker of course. Well, thats my story and I am sticking to it!! Be Blessed
