I'm a passionate gardener. Just rented a bungalow in Asheville - can't wait to get out in the garden.
I'm a magazine writer - main focus equine medicine & health, small animal health, care, agriculture, gardening, architecture, history, food, and travel.
63 years of age - widowed.
Backyard composting is a favorite subject - enjoy sharing tips with others, helping youngsters and grownups learn more about this part of gardening.
Favorite Plants:
Herbs of any kind. Love learning about native plants wherever I've been. Rosemary is a favorite. Lavatera. Trees!
Used to live on the Oregon coast - delighted to see many of the same type of plants in North Carolina.
We were best buds for so long and so long ago (in Ohio), and met again in Carpenteria. So glad to have located you. Sorry you're no longer on the OR coast, since I live in Eugene. Pls. call me at 541.556.2232. e-mail: Kohlkraus@comcast. net. Remember the empty house we used to play in; the poison sumac tree? What crazy years those were. Want to catch up...
Hugs, your pal, Glady (nka Kim-for obvious reasons)
Our mothers were good friends. Mine Janice and yours Jimmie (?) You and I hung out a lot while the 'woman' were out antiquing(?) I think I spent more nights at your house than you did at mine. I remember your father brings fancy dolls, etc. from the orient for you...didn't he travel a lot? I also remember that I thought your mother was gorgious. We may have lost track of each other when you started Andrews School(?) I continued on at Kirtland High. When I was a senior my dad and I visited you, your mom and dad for a day, in Carpenteria. You and I fooled around at the beach. I don't remember seeing you after that. My parents are Jan (deceased) and John Kraus (with the sailboat), and I have a sister, Lin, who is two years older than I. It was fun sleuthing thru Google for Cappy McCloud, and then Tosetti. Just kept following leads to this garden site, and joined so I could contact you. Please send me contact info. I like phone/voice better than e-mail. Hope that works for you too. Have to run for now. Hugs, Kim
Hi Cappy ~ Just back from a visit with my sister in Southern Cal, dog shows in Santa Rosa, plus a couple of days with my step sister. I thought I would take a look at my childhood photo album to see if there is a photo of you and I together. If so, I will attempt to attach it. My sister (Linda-Melinda-Lin) says she remembers you too. We lived in Kirtland down a winding driveway into the woods, which I liked to explore in those days, and there were 50 wooded acres to wander behind our property. You and I also used to shimmy our way thru a broken window in a deserted house near yours and play all day. Remember? Did you finish school at Andrews? You mentioned you had moved a lot. Where have you been? Are your folks still alive? My mother and ex husband both passed away in 1981 (not a particularly good year. My dad is still alive, well and sailing several times a week. Very involved in his local senior club and sailing as many times a week as he can. He still lives in Newport Beach. Please update me about yourself and family too. Look forward to hearing from you. Glady "Kim" Kraus
Cappy,
I got my Lavateria seeds right out of Johnny's catalogue. I had bad luck with them this past year....the first in the last decade. No luck with moon flowers this year either, but I already have plans for a new and better garden in 2010, plus a chicken house (maybe).
Hello to you Gary,
Thanks so much for the information. Seeds? How interesting. This will be a new way to plant lavatera. I used to get the plants in gallon pots. Can't wait to look at the catalog and order some. This is great.
Oh, moom flowers. One of my favorites. I used to grow them Kentucky on my porch. Such a lovely vine. Didn't put in any in 2009, but I'll get it the old college try this year.
Thanks so much.
Love reading about your chickens. I met a lady here in Asheville who was instrumental in passing the law that people can have chickens within the city limits. She is crazy about her "girls." Love farm-fresh eggs.
All the best to you,
Cappy
I'm going to try to update my photo. For some reason it disappeared. I'm the gal with all the "butterflies" on the lawn - that was a fundraiser for a local humane society. I was doing the decorating. Tried to get it back on the site yesterday - for some reason it wouldn't go on my profile, but I could get it on a general photo page.
Modern technology is great with it works. Obviously, it's a human goof on my part.
