Garden Asheville

It is the day after Mother's Day. The old-timers will start planting now. Some hardy souls already have. What's happening in that space you tend?

Currently the carrots, pole beans, dill, corn, taters, onions, shallots, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, leeks, okra, and hops are all up.
Glad to have another Haywood County gardener in the group. I saw your pictures--that is a huge garden. Just a little envious. My new place is in town, so no livestock allowed, but I enjoy goats.

I have a number of things that will be ready to transplant when I move in later this month. Can't wait to fill the yard with a large variety of edible things.
It is good to see so many people planting gardens around Haywood County. People are really starting to go with the idea of buying local or raising it yourself. I work in financial planning and although gardening is enjoyable on a spiritual level it really helps a person's pocket book now days to grow some extra food. I'm glad you realize that even people living in town can do a lot by growing a garden in their yard. You could also do some container gardening on your porch to maximize space or put in window boxes. There are some tomatos that do extremely well in flower boxes that are available from The Cooks Garden. http://www.cooksgarden.com/prodinfo.asp?number=523&variation=&a...
