Here's a good and timely idea - Yardsharing!
There's a new Ning helping to connect people who want to to share growing space, seeds, skills and gardening resources in order to grow food as locally as possible, literally right down the street. It's a natural extension of community gardening.
For example - your neighbor a few blocks away has a big flat lawn and works long hours so he has little time to garden. But he loves fresh veggies. You live in an apartment and have lots of time but no arable land. Yardsharing puts you together. You've never met but get connected online, discuss your needs, come to an agreement and start growing food to share. Together you tear up part of his lawn and grow beans and tomatoes. It's a win/win situation.
