Garden Asheville

Can anyone suggest any local or area nurseries with plants (perennials, particularly) that aren't the usual suspects I see every year at HD, Lowe's and even BB Barns? (Shhhh, Michael, I know there are some great plants there.) When I was in the piedmont in March I went to Niche Gardens near Chapel Hill and they had all sorts of native, new and different plants for sale. I have not been to Sandy Mush, but wonder if that would be worth the drive (I hear it is quite a drive).

Thanks, Doug

I think this is good, honest discussion, Doug. I will tell you, if you are ever in Gastonia (on your way to Charlotte or something), I love Ford's Seed Store on Main Avenue downtown. It takes up 4 storefronts on both sides of the street. Lots of plants, lots to browse through.
Have you been to Meadowbrook/We-Du in Marion? They have a nice selection of natives and native cultivars.

About 45 miles away off Rte 40. Check online- most of their inventory is listed on their website so you can give a look-see at what they might offer you.
No I have not been there. We did go to Painter's outside of Old Fort a few weeks ago - what a zoo! Cars were parked all the way out to the street and the line to pay was about 30 people long. We looked around for a few minutes and left. I may be going to Hickory next week, and might be able to swing by Meadowbrook/We-Du on my return. Thnaks.
