Garden Asheville

Noticed that Lowe's, K-Mart, and WalMart seed packets are present.  This year I'm trying to limit the initial rush to edibles: salad mix(Italian blend), calendula, flat-leaf parsley, and nasturtium.  These were the 20 cent "American Seed" packets found at the latter mentioned store.   For those interested, at K-Mart(S.Tunnel Rd.), the Ferry-Morse seed rack had ten different heirloom tomato varieties for the discounted price of $1.07 each.  Not organic sourced, though.

It's like going to the candy store, isn't it?? Very excited, personally.
Are you planting outdoors yet? I've started some seeds inside but nothing out - building a new "no dig" style garden and getting the topsoil in it this week. I got most of my seeds from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. A little pricey maybe - but many organic and who can resist things like drunken women and devil's tongue lettuces. I hope to start planting out this weekend! I'm brand new to the area - so would love to hear what people are planting and when...
Yes, with outdoors. I had seeds for cool-season vegetables left over from previous years(still viable according to my research), so I direct sowed podded peas, spinach, mustard, radish, lettuce, and turnip. Check with the extension service on Cox Ave in Asheville, for planting literature. Also, see about signing on for their monthly newsletter, available by e-mail since last year. The April edition arrived last weekend, sooner than the print snail mail approach.
