A friend's property has been overrun by invasive bamboo.  They have granted us permission (pleaded with us) to cut and use as much as we would like.  I've considered cutting it and running it through my chipper to use as a mulch in my flower beds.  Has anyone tried this?  What are the potential benefits or drawbacks of using bamboo?

Ok.  No replies, so I gave it a shot.  Here's an update:  The bamboo isn't incredibly attractive, but it does retain moisture (a plus for my dry bed).  It does not attract insects like traditional wood mulch.  Maybe they are just hiding, the carpenter ants seemed to vanish overnight. Yay!  So far, so good.
