Somewhere in this forum there was a discussion stating that paying visitors to the Stowe Botanical Gardens in Belmont, NC would receive some free tulips.... For the life of me I cannot find it to add this comment to rather than starting a whole new thread. But nevermind that: I sent that article on to my son and daughter-in-law who live in Charlotte and work in Gastonia. They went to the BG one Sunday afternoon, paid their entrance fee, accepted the bulbs they were given and sent me 3 dozen bulbs last week. The couple were VERY impressed by not only the gardens, but the orchid conservatory which is only about 2 1/2 years old. Not to be compared to the 100 year old Biltmore Estate Conservatory by any means because of the difference in age and size of collection, but impressive all the same, they said.
So I get my March, 2009 issue of Southern Living (I know, I know - I already mentioned that in another post) and what is in the People and Places section but a 3 page spread on the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden! The article is not up on the Southern Living website yet, but most likely will be in the next few weeks. Key phrases to check are: Carolina Living and Beyond the Usual Blooms in the March edition when it is online.
I have made about 4 blog posts about Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden over the past year.

It will knock your socks off. I'm the one who posted about the free tulips. But that was a special they offered earlier this month.
GardenThymeGirl visited DSBG recently and got the free tulips, too. She really liked it.
I go every chance I get.

We're members of the Arboretum here, and before a trip to the desert this past fall I looked at the list of reciprocal gardens, and discoverd the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix had free admission for Arboretum members. Not only was the display of cactus (cacti?) simply fabulous, they had a special exhibit of Chihuly artwork that had opened just the week before. It was terrific! If you are an Arboretum member, be sure to check you reciprocal garden list when you travel.
Here's a link to the garden in AZ, which has some pretty cool pictures of the Chihuly art:
