Garden Asheville

Before the December snowstorm, I noticed that my cold hardy camelia, which took a hiatus from blooming for a couple of years, had some really big flower buds on it. They seemed to have survived the storm, but I'm wondering if I should do something to protect them from extreme winter weather.

Oooyy! Hope they make it, Karen. A blanket?

Many Camellias will handle our zone 7 weather. I would have a couple of inches of mulch are the plants, but not touching them. Rodents love to hide under the mulch and chomp on plants. I have bought many Goodwill blankets over the years that I put over my beloved "tender" perenials. I always uncovered them as soon as possible. I find it best to have plants that can handle our weather so I'm not replacing them all the time.
Hey Karen, I just posted a video on this topic. It has some tips but not info on specific varieties.
