Garden Asheville

I'm looking for a mid to late fruiting highbush blueberry to grow in Asheville that has a good yield and a great flavor. Any recommendations?

They grow blueberries in abundance at Flyiny Cloud Farm in Fairview. I bet they could give you a good recommendation. I got a chance to check them out during the Mountain Farm & Garden Tour last summer.
We have Bluecrop & Jersey Blueberries. Be sure to alternate the plants to have good cross polination. They are fantastic. Great yield, great for freezing.
There is an article in the March, 2009 issue of Southern Living Magazine - which I just got yesterday - that details some of this information. Here's one quote from the on-line version: "If you live in the Upper and Middle South, try selections of highbush blueberries ( Vaccinium corymbosum) such as 'Bluejay' and 'Bluecrop.' If you live in the Lower and Coastal South, plant selections of heat-tolerant rabbiteye blueberries ( V. ashei), such as 'Beckyblue' and 'Delite.'" The current article indicates that Tifblue is a mid to late variety, Powder Blue is a mid season variety, Premier is early, and Bluecrop is a mid season variety. I comment on these because I either have these varieties now or have had in the past and know that they do well at an elevation of 2500 feet. I had a VERY late bearing variety that was so dark it was almost black, but it didn't survive the move from our farm to town 15 years ago. i don't know which are which anymore but we have several early, a couple of everbearing and a mid to late variety in our yard now.
Thanks everyone. Very helpful.
