Ok, so a friend of mine in Egypt just sent me some seeds of Nymphaea cerulea, Egyptian Blue water lily. They are from beautiful plants growing in the Nile river delta. I may grow a few, but I have some that I can spare.
The first four people to post replies to this discussion will receive 5 seeds each. If you are one of the first four to reply, you can send me a personal message through this site with your address, or I can leave them for you to pick up at B.B. Barns. Either way, just let me know.
I get LOTS of free seeds and plants, so this might be a fun way to share them. We'll see how it goes.
Since I don't have a water garden, I have a friend who does and I would love to watch the water lily grow in her water garden. I can give you my address. Ann Buckner P.S. What a nice offer...thanks.
Okay, I have one person who needs to send me their address for these seeds. All these seeds are gone, so I'll close this discussion thread. Stay tuned for more offers!
So here are the planting instructions for the Water Lily seeds. This information is taken from www.plantzafrica.com.
"The seed can be sown in spring and during summer. Finely sieved clean loam soil without any organic matter or fertiliser is best. Seed should be sown thinly, covered lightly with soil and then plunged into shallow water, no deeper than 2.5 cm, and placed in a sunny position. Germination should take 3-4 weeks The seedlings will look like fine grass at first, developing true leaves later. When the first two or three floating leaves appear the seedling should be pricked out and planted into individual containers and immersed back in the water. They may be submerged into deeper water and larger containers as they grow and lengthen."
