Garden Asheville

I was wondering how everyone's fall and winter gardens are doing? The rutebagas loved the recent frost in my garden and I just picked a bunch of radishes. I have noticed that garlic and fall planted onions are starting to come up and the broccoli is loving the cold weather as well.

This is my first year growing a fall or winter garden so I am a bit suprised as to how much one can grow in the South during the cold months.
This is also my 1st Winter garden - I love having an extra season! I am struggling with bugs and worms in the broccoli and red cabbage. My garlic is sending up slender stalks or leaves. I just pulled my tomatoes and have a couple of eggplants with almost ripe eggplants on them.

Do I need to cover broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc? I've been covering the tomatoes, peppers and eggplants with sheets on the colder nights. I would like to figure out how to do a temporary inexpensive cold frame around my garden bed. I may end up making a PVC frame and using thick plastic.

I'm also excited to see the leaves fall- can't wait to start raking it into the compost and layering it into the garden beds.
