I may be jumping to conclusions here, but gardeners tend to be cooks and, well, the best cooks are usually gardeners. Any of you grow and cook pumpkins? I'm working on a story for the food section about how to use the entire pumpkin in dishes - from the inside out! Give me a call at 232-2935 or send me an e-mail at cmotsinger@CITIZEN-TIMES.com if you have some recipes or tips to share. Thanks a bunch!
I planted a pumpkin seed once from one of those little mini pumpkins. The thing just took off. I had dozens of 'em. I took some to work. I took some to a grade school. I gave them away to anyone who would take one. This year I bought something called a pie pumpkin from Ingles. If it's good, I'm going to try growing a seed from it next spring.
Since I'm a better gardener than a cook, my favorite recipe is one I use for any squash. I cut it open, take out the seeds, turn it upside down in a pan of water and bake for a half hour or so. When done I smother it in maple syrup.
