Great weekend @ the arboretum

The N.C. Arboretum will buzz with activity this weekend. Two garden organizations will hold plant sales from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday: the local dahlia society and the local chrysanthemum society.

Also, ongoing through this Sunday you can check out a butterfly house exhibit called “Winged Transformers.”

Rain barrel sale deadline

Friday’s the last day the Buncombe County master gardeners are taking orders for their rain barrel sale. They’re selling 80-gallon barrels for $110, and make-your-own kits for $20.
The kit includes a brass spigot, a plastic overflow valve, PVC locking fittings and O-rings. It also contains the flexible inlet spout which connects your downspout to the rain barrel.

Pick up is from 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. May 17 at the WNC Farmers Market.
